Children's Faith Formation
The mission of the Children's Discipleship Team is to empower, encourage, teach, and love the children of Messiah Lutheran Church and our community. Our purpose is to facilitate children to be inspired to have a strong foundation in the church and take responsibility for their spiritual journey. Our committee vision is to support Messiah's vision and to create a family focused welcoming environment.

On Sunday September 19, 2010 during the Sunday school hour, parents of children preschool through fifth grade are encouraged to meet in the chapel narthex. During this time they will participate with their child(ren) during the opening singing. Once the children are dismissed to class, we invite all parents to stay for the remainder of the hour. Heidi Murray will give an overview of the Sunday school curriculum for this year and discuss ways for talking to your child(ren) about each week’s lesson.
There will be no Children’s Sunday school on Labor Day weekend - Sunday, Sept. 5
Rally Day is Sunday, Sept. 12.
There is a summer Sunday school class for all children age preschool through fifth grade. Class is held on the lower level in the 2nd-5th grade classroom. The study this summer is on the sacraments and other fun related topics. All children are welcome to join us!
Vacation Bible School was held June 14-17 with an average of 11 children in attendance. Pastor Eric led the opening and several youth and adults from the congregation volunteered. The social ministry project raised over $75.00 and over 50 care kits were made. These benefits will be mailed to Africa Jam.
Mrs. Sue Tobey has graciously agreed to teach the preschool through first graders. Grades 2-5 will be taught by Anne Driskill (Sept.-Dec.), Mary Alice Vowell (Jan.-March), Open (April and May).
Planning is underway for a parenting class to assist parents in understanding and following through with what their child learns in Sunday school each week. Through this class we hope to build a network of parents so that all will have other parents to talk to about parenting issues.
Rally Day will be September 12, 2010. The children will continue with the Spark curriculum which is published by Augsburg Fortress. They will finish Year C in December and will begin Year A during the winter months.
Don’t forget about summer Sunday school. Class is held in the 2nd-5th grade classroom and is open for preschool through fifth grade. The study this summer will be the Sacraments and other fun related topics. Come on, don’t worry it is cool inside…the only heat is from the smiles and hugs!!!
